St. Mary’s College of Maryland celebrated standout performances in the pool as Daniel Madigan and Emerson Young were named Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Swimmers of the Week on Monday, November 18. This marks Madigan’s first career recognition and Young’s third award of the season.
Madigan Shines for Men’s Team

Sophomore Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) led the Seahawks men’s team with strong performances over the weekend. St. Mary’s College posted a 1-1 record, falling 158-104 to non-conference rival University of Mary Washington on Friday before cruising to a 157-62 conference victory over Immaculata University on Saturday.
Madigan’s weekend began with a first-place finish in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.32) against Mary Washington. He also secured second in the 200-breaststroke (2:12.26) and third in the 400-individual medley (4:31.69). Additionally, he contributed as the second leg of the third-place 200-medley relay (1:39.99).
The following day, Madigan claimed victories in the 100-breaststroke (1:04.76) and the 500-freestyle (5:21.42) against Immaculata. He also helped the Seahawks to a win in the 200-medley relay (1:44.36) with another solid second-leg performance.
This honor marks the fourth time a Seahawk men’s swimmer has received the AEC Swimmer of the Week award this season.
Young Leads Women’s Team to Dual Victories
Sophomore Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) continued her impressive season, earning her third AEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week accolade this year and fourth of her career. Young helped the Seahawks women’s team notch a 2-1 record for the weekend, including two conference wins.

St. Mary’s fell to Mary Washington in a 178-81 non-conference loss on Friday but rebounded with commanding victories on Saturday. The Seahawks defeated Immaculata University 151-84 and Cedar Crest College 161-47 in league action.
Young claimed two individual wins against Mary Washington, taking first in the 50-freestyle (24.43) and the 100-freestyle (53.38). She also anchored the victorious 200-freestyle relay and contributed to the third-place 200-medley relay.
On Saturday, Young led a dominant 1-2-3 finish in the 100-backstroke with a winning time of 1:04.52. She also claimed first place in the 50-freestyle (25.17), pacing the Seahawks to victory against Immaculata and Cedar Crest.
Looking Ahead
The Seahawks will compete in the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jacket Invitational at the Hampton, Virginia Aquaplex from November 22-24.
