At its November 14 meeting, the Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) Board of Education appointed Ms. Nicole Penix as the new Supervisor of Elementary and Secondary Social Studies.

Ms. Penix brings extensive experience to her new role. She has been serving as the K-12 Social Studies Learning Specialist, where she has been instrumental in curriculum development and teacher support. Prior to this, she taught at Plum Point Middle School, engaging students in social studies and participating in extracurricular activities as both a coach and sponsor.

Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in History with a focus on Secondary Education from Goucher College and a Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching: Administration and Supervision from Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Ms. Penix has held several leadership positions within CCPS and the broader educational community. She served as the Program Coordinator for the RISE Deliberative Cohort, chaired the CCPS Elementary Social Studies Advisory Council, co-hosted the Maryland State Department of Education’s Social Studies Learning Lab, and co-coordinated the CCPS History Fair. Additionally, she has facilitated multiple book studies aimed at enhancing instructional practices.

In recognition of her contributions to social studies education, Ms. Penix was honored by the Maryland Council for Social Studies (MDCSS) in 2022. This acknowledgment highlights her commitment to advancing social studies instruction and her dedication to student engagement.

The Board of Education expressed confidence that Ms. Penix’s appointment will further strengthen the social studies programs across CCPS, benefiting both educators and students.
