HAMPTON, Va. – Senior captain Luke Schwenk and first-year swimmer Harrison Greenwald made history for the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s swimming program during Saturday’s events at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Hosted by Randolph-Macon College at the Hampton Aquaplex, the Seahawks secured six Top 10 finishes, ending the day in fifth place out of seven teams with 366 points.

Schwenk Sets 100-Backstroke Record

Schwenk, an Annapolis native, continued his record-breaking streak by winning the 100-backstroke with a program-best time of 47.95 seconds. This marks his third meet record of the weekend and surpasses his previous record of 47.98, set during the NCAA Championships on March 22, 2024.

Greenwald Smashes 400-IM Mark Twice

Reisterstown’s Harrison Greenwald delivered a standout performance, breaking the Seahawks’ 13-year-old record in the 400-individual medley preliminaries with a time of 4:12.25. He later shattered his own record during the consolation finals, clocking in at 4:10.13 to place 10th.

Top Relay Performances

  • The team of Schwenk, sophomores Daniel Madigan and Qwada Moses, and sophomore Anthony Davis earned fifth place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:34.46.
  • In the 800-freestyle relay, Greenwald, Madigan, CB Jurado, and Davis placed seventh, completing the race in 7:19.92.
  • Another Seahawks relay team, comprising junior William Kendrick, sophomore Luca Fairbank, Kyle Smith, and Jurado, finished 10th in the 200-medley relay in 1:39.07.

Individual Highlights

Madigan impressed with a ninth-place finish in the 100-breaststroke, touching the wall in 59.32. Fairbank followed in 15th (1:02.29), and senior Sam Meisel took 22nd (1:08.46).

In the 100-backstroke, the Seahawks saw four athletes contribute points, including Kendrick (14th, 55.58), Thomas Brown (20th, 1:00.11), and Tony Lumezi (22nd, 1:00.70) alongside Schwenk’s record-setting performance.

Smith and Moses represented St. Mary’s in the 100-butterfly, finishing 19th (54.35) and 20th (54.63), respectively. In the 200-freestyle, Jurado led the team with a 22nd-place finish (1:52.20), while first-year Stephen Lepine took 24th (1:54.18).

Seahawks Continue to Shine

The Yellow Jacket Invitational showcased the depth and talent of St. Mary’s College swimming, with standout performances from both seasoned veterans and newcomers. With Schwenk’s consistency and Greenwald’s emergence, the Seahawks are poised for continued success as they look ahead to the remainder of their season.
