OWINGS MILLS, Md. – St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball team secured its second consecutive win with an 87-73 non-conference victory over Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks (2-3) displayed a dominant performance, handing the previously undefeated Mustangs (3-1) their first loss of the season.

The Seahawks started strong, shooting an impressive 59.4% in the first half to build a commanding 24-11 lead midway through the period. Despite the Mustangs trimming the gap with a buzzer-beating layup from Myles Jackson, the Seahawks held a 46-37 lead at halftime.
Sophomore guard James Lerner paced St. Mary’s in the opening half, netting 11 points, including three of the Seahawks’ five three-pointers.
Stevenson fought back early in the second half with a 12-6 run, driven by 10 points from Cameron Smith, bringing the score to 52-49 with 16:08 remaining. However, the Seahawks answered with a decisive 26-18 run over the next 11 minutes, sparked by sophomore guard Ree Smith’s consecutive baskets. St. Mary’s re-established a double-digit lead and maintained control for the rest of the game.
