Three standout members of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey team have been recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) with All-Region accolades, the organization announced Wednesday morning, Dec. 4. Sponsored by Apex Field Hockey, the NFHCA honors underscore a stellar season for the Seahawks.
Senior captain Charlotte Horn (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern) secured First Team All-Region IV honors for the second consecutive year, while juniors Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore) and Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) earned spots on the Second Team. These recognitions add to the program’s impressive history, with 17 players amassing 27 all-region honors to date.

Charlotte Horn: A Career of Excellence
Horn closes her collegiate career as one of the most decorated players in the program’s history. A four-time All-Region selection, Horn received Second Team honors in 2021 and 2022 before earning back-to-back First Team distinctions in 2023 and 2024. This season, she was also named the United East Conference Defensive Player of the Year, marking her third consecutive conference defensive award after two previous wins in the Atlantic East.
Known for her tenacity on defense, the 5-foot-5 senior anchored a unit that posted eight shutouts this season. She also contributed offensively, recording three goals, including two game-winners, and six assists—placing her third in the United East in assists. Horn’s performance in the United East Championship further cemented her legacy, as she scored twice in the Seahawks’ 5-1 victory over Keystone College on Nov. 9, earning tournament MVP honors.
Emma Watkins: A Breakthrough Season
Emma Watkins capped a breakout season by earning her first All-Region recognition and being named United East Player of the Year. The 4-foot-11 forward led the Seahawks with 12 goals, ranking second in the conference. Watkins also tallied 24 points, tying for third in the United East.
Watkins recorded five two-goal games during the season and was named NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23, along with two United East Offensive Player of the Week honors. Her offensive prowess played a pivotal role in the Seahawks’ success, as they captured both the United East regular-season and tournament championships in their inaugural year in the conference.
Brenna Ziegler: A Consistent Force
Junior forward Brenna Ziegler added to her impressive resume by earning her third All-Region honor, following a First Team nod in 2023 and a Second Team distinction in 2022. Ziegler also earned her third First Team All-Conference selection this season.
The 5-foot-9 forward led the Seahawks with 31 points and nine assists, while her 11 goals ranked second on the team. Ziegler’s league-leading five game-winning goals underscored her ability to deliver in critical moments. On Nov. 2, she scored her 100th career point in a semifinal victory over Penn State Harrisburg, becoming only the second Seahawk to achieve this milestone. She also tied the program’s career assist record of 23 during the United East championship game.
A Season to Remember
The Seahawks ended the 2024 season with their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament. Dominating the United East Conference in their debut season, St. Mary’s captured both the regular-season and tournament titles. The team extended its undefeated conference record to 22-0 over the past four seasons, underscoring their dominance.
With Horn, Watkins, and Ziegler leading the charge, St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey has solidified its reputation as a powerhouse in Division III athletics.
