Two Great Mills residents were arrested Thursday, December 5, 2024, in connection with a drug trafficking operation that led to the largest narcotics seizure in St. Mary’s County history. Antwian Marquis Johnson, 38, and Shannon Marie Johnson, 37, were taken into custody during a series of coordinated raids on residences in Great Mills and Hollywood.

Authorities seized an estimated 21.5 kilograms (47 pounds) of suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl, valued at $2,160,600. Additional items confiscated included $75,000 in cash, multiple firearms, and four vehicles believed to have been used in the distribution network.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office conducted the operation following an extensive investigation by its Criminal Investigations Division. The first search occurred early Thursday at a residence on the 45000 block of Daugherty Court in Great Mills. Detectives uncovered cash, two firearms, and evidence of illegal drug activity.

A subsequent search at a property on the 24000 block of Old Hollywood Road in Hollywood revealed a large quantity of controlled dangerous substances (CDS). Over 200 individually packaged bags of drugs—indicative of street-level sales—and bulk CDS suitable for high-volume trafficking were seized, along with drug paraphernalia.

Antwian Marquis Johnson faces 12 charges, including:

  • CDS possession in large amounts (2 counts)
  • CDS possession with intent to distribute (2 counts)
  • Possession of a firearm in relation to drug trafficking (2 counts)
  • Additional charges related to illegal CDS possession, proceeds from drug crimes, and firearm violations.

Shannon Marie Johnson is charged with nine offenses, including:

  • CDS possession in large amounts (2 counts)
  • Conspiracy to possess CDS with intent to distribute (2 counts)
  • Maintaining a vehicle for illegal drug use
  • Other charges linked to CDS possession and drug-related offenses.

Both suspects remain in custody at the Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown.

Sheriff Steve Hall praised the operation, calling it a milestone for the department. “Thursday’s operation was the largest narcotics seizure in St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office’s history, as well as one of the most significant seizures in the Southern Maryland region,” Hall said. “I witnessed the profound sense of accomplishment by the deputies involved in the operation, which is only surpassed by my pride in them. It is a privilege to lead these guardians who tirelessly fight against those intent on poisoning our community.”

The Sheriff’s Office noted that this bust significantly disrupts the flow of narcotics into the region and highlights their ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard residents.
