CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md.—The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred following an attempted traffic stop on Saturday evening, November 16, 2024, in Chesapeake Beach, Calvert County.

According to the preliminary investigation, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a deputy from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office was stationed in a marked police cruiser near MD Route 261 and 17th Street in Chesapeake Beach. The deputy observed a gold Ford Mustang traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and activated emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver of the Mustang failed to stop, and after approximately 1.6 miles, the vehicle crossed the double yellow line, entered the oncoming lane, left the roadway, and struck a telephone pole. Deputies provided immediate medical aid until emergency medical services arrived to take over lifesaving efforts. However, the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Justin Foreman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Evidence

The deputies involved in the incident were equipped with body-worn cameras, and footage of the collision has been released by the IID. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is assisting the IID in investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
