WALDORF, Md., —For one Charles County woman, what began as a routine dinner outing ended with a $50,000 Powerball win that changed not only her evening plans but also her financial outlook.
The Waldorf resident, a bank employee who plays the Lottery occasionally, described the unexpected moment that left her appetite on hold. “I don’t check my tickets until I have a solid handful,” she shared with Lottery officials. “While I was waiting for my order at the restaurant, I realized they sold Lottery tickets, so I decided to scan mine.”
A Surprising Discovery
Among the tickets she checked was a $2 quick-pick Powerball ticket from the Oct. 19 drawing. As the scanner revealed her $50,000 win, her routine dinner plans quickly shifted. “It was such a surprise. It just came out of nowhere,” she said.
Overwhelmed by the discovery, the woman decided to turn her dine-in order into carryout. “I was so excited that I had to get out of there,” she explained. Even after picking up her food, eating became an afterthought. “The last thing on my mind was eating.”
Big Plans for the Prize
The lucky winner intends to use her prize money to pay off bills, with enough left over to indulge in some travel. While specific destinations remain under consideration, one location is already memorable: Jimmie’s Paddock, the Lottery retailer at 4740 Crain Highway in White Plains where she purchased the winning ticket.
Her win highlights the excitement and unpredictability of the Lottery, transforming an ordinary dinner outing into a life-changing event.
