LUSBY, Md.—In a heartwarming act of generosity, Constellation and the Optimist Club of Calvert gifted 100 bicycles and helmets to local children in Calvert County, Maryland. The giveaway, which took place on December 7, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lusby, was part of Constellation’s ongoing community engagement efforts.
The bicycles were assembled by Constellation employees and distributed to deserving families through a partnership with Free Bikes 4 Kidz Maryland. In total, 94 children from 64 families received bicycles, while an additional six bikes were donated to Toys for Tots of Calvert County.

For many recipients, this was their first-ever bicycle. A parent of one child expressed their gratitude in a heartfelt note to the organizers:
“My son is sitting in his room on the bike. He has a disability, and you all were so kind during bike pick up. Times are hard here and everywhere, so thank you for making a young man happy and his momma too.”
A Community Effort
The event underscored Constellation’s commitment to giving back to the community, particularly in Calvert County, home to the company’s Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center, the state’s largest producer of clean, emissions-free energy.
“This event exemplifies our commitment to giving back to the communities we serve,” said Pete Moodie, Calvert Cliffs Site Vice President. “Being able to bring joy to children in our community is truly heartwarming.”
Broader Support for Calvert County
In addition to the bike giveaway, Constellation has provided $185,000 in contributions since September to local organizations focusing on environmental, educational, and hunger-relief programs.
This partnership with the Optimist Club and Free Bikes 4 Kidz Maryland is just one of the many ways Constellation demonstrates its dedication to community engagement.
