Reading, PA – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s basketball team (8-6) traveled to Reading, Pennsylvania, where they defeated Penn State Berks (0-12) in a decisive 78-58 United East Conference victory. A balanced offensive effort and a dominant second quarter propelled the Seahawks to their eighth win of the season.

The game started competitively, with St. Mary’s holding a 17-14 lead after the first quarter. The Seahawks spread the scoring among six different players, showcasing their depth. A late jumper by Sam Blaylock capped the opening quarter, securing a three-point advantage for St. Mary’s.

The Seahawks took complete control in the second quarter, outscoring Penn State Berks 29-8. A critical stretch came mid-quarter when the Seahawks went on an eight-point run, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Blaylock and Marley Saunders. Another seven-point scoring streak closed out the quarter, sending St. Mary’s into halftime with a commanding 46-22 lead.

In the third quarter, the Seahawks continued to build their advantage, with a Samantha Miller layup pushing the lead to 28 points. While Penn State Berks began to find their offensive rhythm, St. Mary’s remained firmly in control, carrying a 27-point lead into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the Seahawks reach their largest lead of the game—31 points—after Keira Mason scored the opening four points of the quarter. Despite a late push by Penn State Berks, the Lions could not overcome the deficit, and the Seahawks secured the 20-point win.

Mason led the way for St. Mary’s with an impressive double-double, tallying 19 points and 14 rebounds. Blaylock added 17 points, shooting a sharp 7-for-10 from the field, while Saunders contributed 11 points, including three three-pointers.

The Seahawks will now prepare to face Valley Forge in another road matchup on January 14 at 5:00 p.m. in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
