First-year forward Keira Mason of St. Mary’s College of Maryland (Brandywine, Md./Gwynn Park) earned her first career United East Conference Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Monday, January 13.

Mason played a pivotal role in securing two United East Conference victories for the Seahawks last week. The team dominated with an 82-22 home victory against Rosemont College on January 8, followed by a 78-58 road win over Penn State Berks on January 11.

In the win against Rosemont, Mason contributed six points, five defensive rebounds, four assists, and a career-best six steals. She followed that performance with a standout game against Penn State Berks, recording her fifth double-double of the season. Mason posted game-highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards, along with a career-high three blocks and two steals.

Mason’s efforts this season have positioned her among the top performers in the conference. She currently ranks ninth in rebounds per game (9.0) and ties for 13th in scoring with 13.5 points per game.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, now 9-6 overall and undefeated in conference play at 6-0, returns to action on Tuesday, January 14, traveling to Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, to face the University of Valley Forge (3-10, 2-4 UEC) in a 6 p.m. matchup.
