Charles County authorities charged students at Henry E. Lackey High School and La Plata High School with cannabis-related offenses on January 22 after school administrators discovered vaping devices and cannabis in their possession.
At Henry E. Lackey High School, a student was found with three vaping devices that tested positive for THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis. The devices were confiscated, and the school resource officer issued the student a civil citation for possession of cannabis. The student also faces disciplinary actions as outlined in the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Student Code of Conduct.
At La Plata High School, an 18-year-old student was discovered with a vaping device designed for THC cartridges and 1.5 grams of cannabis. Although the vaping device did not contain a cartridge and was not tested, the student was charged via a civil citation for possession of cannabis. Disciplinary measures under the CCPS Student Code of Conduct will also apply.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is urging parents to have conversations with their children about the risks of consuming products that may contain harmful or potentially deadly substances.
PFC Miedzinski is handling the investigation at Henry E. Lackey High School, while Cpl. Duley is leading the investigation at La Plata High School.
