The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Seahawks continue to make waves in both basketball and swimming, as three student-athletes received conference honors for their outstanding performances.
Yassine Idrissa Earns Second Defensive Player of the Week Award
First-year forward Yassine Idrissa (Rockville, Md./Wootton) claimed his second United East Conference Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week honor, recognizing his contributions during a strong 2-1 week for the Seahawks. St. Mary’s secured wins over Gallaudet University and the University of Valley Forge after a road loss to Bryn Athyn College.

Over the three games, Idrissa shot an impressive 79.2% from the floor and 71.4% from the free-throw line, amassing 53 points, 22 rebounds (16 defensive), 11 blocks, five assists, and three steals. Against Gallaudet, Idrissa scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and recorded seven blocks, while in the win over Valley Forge, he added 18 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.
Idrissa leads the United East in field goal percentage (.667) and blocks per game (2.6), ranks fifth in rebounds per game (8.0), and 10th in free-throw percentage (.748). Nationally, he is fifth in Division III in field goal percentage and 13th in blocks per game.
The Seahawks (11-9, 7-4 UEC) host Notre Dame of Maryland University tomorrow at 7 p.m.
Luke Schwenk Honored as Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Senior Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) captured his third Atlantic East Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week award this season, bringing his career total to 17. Schwenk’s contributions led the Seahawks to a decisive 165.50-79.50 non-conference win over William Peace University.

Schwenk claimed victories in the 100-backstroke (53.82), the 50-freestyle (20.33), and the 100-freestyle (45.77), with the latter two marking dual-meet best times. St. Mary’s (9-6) will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 1, with a 1 p.m. meet against Southern Virginia University.
Kelsie Miller Claims Women’s Swimmer of the Week Recognition
Sophomore Kelsie Miller (Potomac, Md./Churchill) earned her second Atlantic East Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week award this season and the sixth of her career. Miller’s stellar performance included four gold medals in a 180-68 non-conference win at William Peace University.

She swam the third leg of the victorious 200-medley relay and posted individual wins in the 200-butterfly (2:10.74), 100-freestyle (52.68), and 200-individual medley (2:11.52). The Seahawks (10-6) will also host Southern Virginia University this Saturday for their Senior Day meet.
