ST. MARY’S COUNTY, Md. – Deacon Ken Scheiber, a longtime educator at St. Mary’s Ryken High School, has been recognized with the Impact Educator award by the Morehead-Cain Foundation, an honor given to teachers who inspire leadership and intellectual curiosity in their students.

The award, which highlights educators worldwide who play a pivotal role in shaping future change-makers, is determined by top high school seniors who credit their teachers for having a lasting influence on their academic journeys.

St. Mary’s Ryken senior Emilie Garrabrant, one of the students who nominated Scheiber, described his teaching as transformative.

“Having had the opportunity to take AP Seminar, AP Research, and AP Economics with Deacon Scheiber, I’ve experienced a fantastic education that merges culture, philosophy, economics, and exploration,” Garrabrant said. “In Deacon Scheiber’s classes, I’ve had the chance to encounter new economic theories and verify new proposals through academic research.”

Scheiber is among 457 educators across 40 states and 22 countries to receive the distinction. His ability to engage students in critical thinking and real-world problem-solving has made a lasting impact, preparing them for college and beyond.

The recognition adds to St. Mary’s Ryken’s reputation for academic excellence, and the school community is celebrating the achievement.
