Nearly fifty years after the murder of George Allen MacDonald, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to seek information that could help bring his killer to justice. MacDonald, a 26-year-old resident of Riverdale, Maryland, was last seen attending a Halloween party in Prince George’s County in 1973. His body was discovered several months later, in February 1974, along the shores of Trinity Lake near Dubois Road in La Plata. Investigators believe he was killed either at the party or sometime afterward and that he likely knew the person or people responsible for his death.

Detectives working on the case determined that MacDonald may have been involved in a fight on the night he disappeared. Despite interviewing multiple individuals who were present at the party, law enforcement officials have been unable to determine exactly what happened to MacDonald after he left. No one they spoke with reported seeing him alive after the night of the party. Investigators are asking for anyone who attended the gathering or who may have information about MacDonald’s final hours to come forward.

The circumstances surrounding MacDonald’s murder have left law enforcement searching for new leads for nearly five decades. Given the passage of time, authorities hope that someone who may have withheld information in the past is now willing to speak out. Cold case detectives believe that even the smallest detail could help reconstruct the events of that night and provide insight into who was responsible for MacDonald’s death.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with Charles County Crime Solvers, is offering a reward of up to ten thousand dollars for information that leads to an arrest or indictment in the case. The Crime Solvers program ensures that those who come forward with information can remain anonymous. Authorities encourage anyone with even the slightest detail about the case to contact them, as information that may have seemed insignificant at the time could now be critical in solving the case.

Law enforcement officials continue to emphasize that cold cases are never closed until they are solved. Advances in forensic technology, combined with new witness statements, could make a difference in bringing justice to MacDonald’s family. Investigators continue to reexamine evidence and follow leads in an effort to piece together what happened on the night MacDonald was last seen alive.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. All tips can be submitted anonymously, and tipsters may be eligible for a financial reward if their information leads to an arrest. Detectives are especially interested in hearing from anyone who attended the party in 1973, as well as from individuals who may have heard rumors or details over the years that could provide further insight into MacDonald’s case.
