A La Plata man was arrested following an early morning incident in Lexington Park where he allegedly brandished a firearm at multiple individuals and vandalized a vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an armed suspect in the 45000 block of Carefree Way at approximately 1:38 a.m. on Sunday, February 16. When officers arrived, the suspect had already left the area. Witnesses reported that he approached a residence, prompting several people to step outside. The suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at them, causing them to retreat indoors. As they watched from inside, he reportedly slashed the tires of a car in the driveway before leaving.

Investigators identified the suspect as 41-year-old Adam David Chaney of La Plata. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division and patrol deputies tracked Chaney to his home, where they executed a search warrant. A firearm was recovered, and Chaney was taken into custody without incident.

He has been charged with first- and second-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or violent crime, and malicious destruction of property under $1,000. Chaney was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
