St. Mary’s City, Md. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s swimming team delivered a dominant performance at the 2025 Atlantic East Conference Swimming Championships, setting multiple records and securing a second-place team finish. The Seahawks tallied 825 points, marking their highest total since joining the conference in the 2020-21 season.

Despite the strong showing, Marymount University continued its dominance in the Atlantic East, clinching its third consecutive championship with 917 points. The five-team meet also featured Immaculata University with 273 points, Marywood University with 264, and Gallaudet University with 227.

Senior captain Luke Schwenk was named Atlantic East Swimmer of the Year for the third consecutive season after a standout performance in multiple events. First-year swimmer Harrison Greenwald earned Atlantic East Rookie of the Year honors, while junior Jair Jackson received the Elite 20 Award, which recognizes academic and athletic excellence.

The final events of the championship included the 200-backstroke, 100-freestyle, 200-breaststroke, 200-butterfly, 1650-freestyle, and 400-freestyle relay. St. Mary’s College swimmers claimed multiple gold medals and set several conference, meet, and school records.

Schwenk captured his third straight conference title in the 100-freestyle, setting a championship meet record, a conference record, a school record, and achieving an NCAA B cut with a time of 43.72 seconds. His performance shattered his previous record of 44.26, which he set on February 18, 2024.

Sophomore Daniel Madigan won gold in the 200-breaststroke after finishing as the runner-up in the event last season. During the preliminary round, Madigan broke his own school record with a time of 2:07.18, improving upon his previous mark of 2:07.93 from November 24, 2024. He then set a new meet and conference record in the finals with a time of 2:05.60, breaking the previous championship record of 2:06.43, set by Cabrini University’s Tre Fissella on April 24, 2021.

Greenwald added another first-place finish for the Seahawks, setting a meet record in the 1650-freestyle with a time of 16:29.79.

The 400-freestyle relay team of sophomores Anthony Davis and Kyle Smith, junior captain William Kendrick, and Schwenk finished second in 3:08.92, missing gold by just 0.79 seconds. Their performance broke the St. Mary’s College school record of 3:09.78, which had stood since February 21, 2016.

First-year swimmer Stephen Lepine took bronze in the 1650-freestyle, finishing in 17:39.42, while sophomore Nick Suwito placed seventh with a time of 21:31.19.

In the 200-backstroke, Smith led the Seahawks with a fourth-place finish in 2:07.64. Sophomore CB Jurado finished seventh in 2:18.33, while fellow sophomore Jake Williams placed eighth in 2:38.50.

Jackson earned the team’s best finish in the 200-butterfly, finishing fourth with a time of 2:05.52. Junior Tony Lumezi placed sixth in 2:17.42, and sophomore Thomas Brown rounded out the event for St. Mary’s College with an eighth-place finish in 2:35.13.

Davis placed fifth in the 100-freestyle with a time of 48.65, while Kendrick followed closely in sixth with a time of 48.72. Sophomore Qwada Moses also reached the podium, finishing seventh in 50.40.

In the 200-breaststroke, sophomore Luca Fairbank finished fifth with a time of 2:17.21. Senior Sam Meisel joined Madigan and Fairbank on the podium, placing eighth in 2:27.68. Suwito won the consolation final with a time of 2:42.85, finishing ninth overall.

With their performances at the Atlantic East Championships, several Seahawks are now preparing to compete at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships, scheduled for March 19-22 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
