The Charles County Economic Development Department, in collaboration with the Charles County Government, has launched a new web page to assist residents and businesses affected by shifts in federal employment. As a significant portion of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Charles County is home to many federal employees and contractors. The newly introduced Government Transition Resources web page aims to provide support and stability for those facing uncertainty due to changes in the federal workforce.

The web page serves as a centralized hub, offering a range of resources to help individuals navigate employment transitions. It provides access to career counseling, unemployment benefits, business development programs, transportation assistance, childcare and family services, and affordable housing options. Additionally, support is available for those facing housing insecurity, ensuring that affected residents have access to essential services.

Economic Development Department Director Kelly Robertson-Slagle emphasized the county’s commitment to helping the community during this period of transition. She highlighted the importance of ensuring that residents and business owners have access to the right support networks as they navigate potential job losses, contract changes, or employment reassignments.

Recognizing that individual needs vary, the Economic Development Department has also introduced a community survey. This survey allows residents, business owners, and federal employees to share their concerns and request specific types of assistance. The information collected will help shape additional services and ensure that county resources are aligned with community needs.

The Government Transition Resources web page will be updated regularly to reflect new programs, partnerships, and support initiatives as they become available. Residents are encouraged to check back frequently for the latest information.

County officials acknowledge that economic transitions can be challenging, particularly for a region so closely tied to federal employment. By creating a dedicated platform for affected individuals and businesses, Charles County aims to provide guidance, resources, and direct access to assistance programs that can help residents adapt to workforce changes.
