ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team (4-3) delivered a resounding 26-10 non-conference road victory over Messiah University (1-5) on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, fueled by career performances from seniors Aiden Doyle and Jake Levey. The win marked a strong rebound for the Seahawks, who showcased their offensive and defensive prowess at Messiah’s home field.

The game kicked off with St. Mary’s taking a 6-2 lead in the first quarter, driven by a 4-1 run, including two early goals from Levey. The second quarter saw the Seahawks extend their dominance with a 7-4 frame, highlighted by Doyle’s three-goal hat trick, pushing the halftime score to 13-6. The third quarter solidified the victory with an 8-2 run, featuring two goals each from Levey and sophomore Declan Horton, while the fourth quarter closed with a 5-2 edge, powered by two goals apiece from Doyle and senior captain Nate Hochrein.

Inside the box score, St. Mary’s outshot Messiah 63-43 and dominated ground balls 62-33, with junior Matteo Ciccarello leading with a game- and season-high 15 ground balls and 26 face-off wins out of 36 attempts—a season-best. The Seahawks’ defense stifled Messiah’s three extra-man opportunities while converting 2 of 5 man-up chances. Doyle finished with a career-high six goals and two assists for eight points, plus five ground balls and a caused turnover. Levey matched his career best with five goals and six points, adding a ground ball. Horton added four goals and an assist, Hochrein notched three goals and five points, and sophomore Gavin McKay scored a career-first hat trick with three goals. Senior defenseman Jeremy Heath led the defense with six ground balls and a caused turnover, while senior goalkeeper Cullen McKay made nine saves through three quarters. Sophomore Ty Grove and freshman Ty Spencer contributed three and four saves, respectively, in relief.

For Messiah, Bobby Berg led with three goals and two assists, plus four ground balls, while goalkeeper Jourdain Algarin recorded six saves in 40 minutes as the Falcons suffered their fifth consecutive loss.

St. Mary’s, a Division III program in the United East Conference with a student body of about 1,600, plays home games at JLR Stadium. The win improves their season record and sets the stage for their next challenge against Vassar (4-1) on March 15 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s City. The Seahawks’ balanced attack—28 goals from six players—and face-off dominance (71% win rate) highlight a team finding its stride, though sustaining this against a stronger Vassar squad will test their consistency.
