LA PLATA, Md. — Edgard “Gardy” Domenech, Mail Services Coordinator at the College of Southern Maryland, received the Shining Star Award from the Mail Systems Management Association during its March 4, 2025, conference in Las Vegas. Recognized by peers for his reliability and contributions, Domenech has served CSM for five years, enhancing mail operations across its multi-campus system.
The MSMA’s Shining Star Award honors individuals who demonstrate personal growth, team spirit, and significant impact within their departments. “I am humbled and honored to know that my work and dedication to CSM is recognized by my supervisors and the campus community,” Domenech said. Alan Hemming, assistant director of campus operations, nominated him, citing his leadership and versatility. “Gardy has shown a positive team spirit and knowledge as he has helped install a new mailing service here at the college,” Hemming wrote, noting Domenech’s implementation of a mail locker system and addition of employee Ryan Longfellow to the team.
Hemming praised further efforts. “He has leaned into the ‘other duties as assigned’ when it comes to space management, small construction, and auxiliary service projects,” he wrote. “It’s incredible to know that if I am in a pinch that I can rely on his team to come and save the day.” Hemming also highlighted Domenech and Longfellow’s growth as a unit, improving communication and operations. “It’s been great seeing Gardy and his employee grow together into a great team,” he added.
CSM leadership echoed the sentiment. “Gardy is such a stellar employee, and I couldn’t be happier for him,” said President Dr. Yolanda Wilson. “He approaches each day with a smile, a positive attitude, and great customer service, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him at CSM. Thank you for representing us with such excellence.” Staff congratulated Domenech for his consistent service, which last year handled over 50,000 mail items across CSM’s three campuses, per college data.
The award marks a first for CSM within the MSMA, a national organization for mail professionals.
