WALDORF, Md. — A Charles County Sheriff’s Office patrol officer arrested a 17-year-old from Capitol Heights and recovered a stolen silver Hyundai on March 19, 2025, at 3:25 a.m. The incident began when officers responded to a crash notification from an iPhone in the Wedgewood Place area.
PFC Stine observed the Hyundai with front-end damage and the driver in a ski mask. The driver fled upon seeing the officer. The vehicle was confirmed stolen from a report filed March 18. Due to the damage, it reached only 25 miles per hour. The driver stopped near Smallwood Drive and Copley Avenue, where PFC Stine arrested him without incident.
The teen was charged as a juvenile with theft and traffic violations under Maryland law. The damaged Hyundai was impounded. The crash alert that prompted the response came from the stolen vehicle’s earlier collision, though details were not released.
Maryland classifies motor vehicle theft as a felony. Juvenile offenders face separate proceedings focused on rehabilitation. Traffic charges likely stem from fleeing the officer.
The arrest occurred in Waldorf, with the pursuit moving from Wedgewood Place to Smallwood Drive. The sheriff’s office has not reported additional suspects or charges. The case remains under investigation.
