ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — Senior attackman Aiden Doyle etched his name into St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse history on Saturday, March 22, 2025, scoring six goals to become the program’s all-time leading goal scorer in a 26-7 rout of Penn College. Doyle, alongside senior Keegan Preis, powered the Seahawks (6-3, 1-0 UEC) to a commanding United East Conference opening win over the Wildcats (6-3, 0-1 UEC) at JLR Stadium, combining for 12 goals and 11 assists.

Doyle, a 6-foot-5 standout from Annapolis, Md., entered the game needing six goals to surpass Dave Mueller’s 2006 record of 133. He delivered with a career-high 12-point performance—six goals and six assists—pushing his career total to 134 goals and 203 points. Preis, a 6-foot attackman from Upper Falls, Md., also marked milestones, crossing 200 career points (now 208) and 150 assists (now 152) with six goals and five helpers. Senior captain Nate Hochrein added to the celebration, reaching 100 career points with three goals and an assist, finishing the day at 102.

The Seahawks held a 9-5 edge midway through the second quarter after Penn College’s Elliot Dotson scored unassisted. From there, St. Mary’s unleashed a 17-0 run spanning 29 minutes, ballooning the lead to 26-5 by the fourth quarter’s 6:46 mark. Penn College managed two late goals, but the outcome was long decided.

St. Mary’s dominated statistically, outshooting Penn College 58-27 (37-12 on goal) and forcing a season-high 20 turnovers, contributing to a +12 turnover margin (17-29). The Seahawks also controlled ground balls 43-27, led by junior Matteo Ciccarello’s game-high nine. Ciccarello excelled at the face-off X, winning 18 of 29 draws as St. Mary’s took 20 of 37 face-offs.

Senior midfielder Jake Levey chipped in four goals and an assist, while sophomore Gavin McKay added two goals and one assist. Sophomore attackman Blane Dail scored twice, marking his third multi-goal game this season. Defensively, Jeremy Heath and Adam Martin each caused a career-best four turnovers, and sophomore Will Hock grabbed seven ground balls, also a personal high. Senior goalkeeper Cullen McKay made four saves in 47:56, improving to 6-2.

For Penn College, Elliot Dotson led with two goals and an assist, and Owen Kupsey scored twice. Goalkeeper Ryan Twist stopped 11 shots, but the Wildcats couldn’t halt their six-game win streak from snapping.

Doyle’s record-breaking day adds to a storied career that began in 2022. According to the St. Mary’s athletics website, he’s been a consistent offensive force, earning multiple conference honors. Preis, already the program’s assists leader, continues to climb the national ranks, sitting among Division III’s top playmakers per NCAA stats.

The Seahawks’ offensive explosion showcased their depth, with 10 players contributing points. Their defense, ranked among the conference’s best for caused turnovers, stifled Penn College’s attack, which had averaged 14 goals per game entering Saturday, per Penn College athletics.

St. Mary’s now turns its attention to a marquee matchup against No. 15 Lynchburg (3-4) on March 30 at 1 p.m. at JLR Stadium. The Hornets, a perennial contender, will test the Seahawks’ momentum as they aim to build on their 6-3 start. Penn College, meanwhile, looks to rebound in conference play after the lopsided loss dropped them to 0-1 in the UEC.
