LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Comcast has officially connected the first homes and businesses in Leonardtown, Maryland, to its Xfinity and Comcast Business services, marking a significant step in its expansive St. Mary’s County network rollout. Announced on March 25, 2025, this milestone brings reliable, high-speed, symmetrical Internet to the initial wave of 5,800 homes and businesses in the Leonardtown area, part of a broader initiative to reach over 30,000 residents and businesses countywide by 2028. With 50 percent of the project slated for completion by summer 2025, Comcast is deepening its investment in Southern Maryland’s digital future.

The Leonardtown expansion builds on Comcast’s ongoing efforts in St. Mary’s County, where thousands of addresses already enjoy Xfinity and Comcast Business services. “Expanding broadband access is a top priority for St. Mary’s County,” said Randy Guy, President of the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, “and we are thrilled to see Comcast making this significant investment in our community.” Guy highlighted the economic, educational, and quality-of-life benefits of connecting over 30,000 residents and businesses, offering them more choices for reliable connectivity. Ray Roundtree, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Beltway Region, emphasized the company’s commitment: “As St. Mary’s County continues to grow and attract new businesses, we are proud to bolster our investment in the region and bring our state-of-the-art network to thousands more residents and small businesses.” The network promises gigabit speeds, 99.9 percent reliability, and top-tier WiFi, positioning Leonardtown within Comcast’s nationwide footprint of 64 million connected homes and businesses.

Beyond infrastructure, Comcast is enhancing community welfare with a $47,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Maryland and the Arc Southern Maryland, supporting digital skills, career development, and Internet adoption. The Internet Essentials program further aids low-income households with affordable high-speed Internet and computers, reinforcing economic mobility in the region.

For residents, Xfinity delivers a full suite of services—Internet, video, mobile, voice, and home security—with gigabit speeds and low-latency connections ideal for streaming, video calls, and browsing. Businesses gain access to Comcast Business’s scalable solutions, including connectivity, cybersecurity, and Ethernet services, recognized industry-wide for innovation. With St. Mary’s County’s population exceeding 113,000 (U.S. Census), this expansion strengthens Leonardtown’s digital backbone as it grows.
