ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s tennis team delivered a commanding performance on March 28, 2025, shutting out Notre Dame of Maryland University 7-0 in their second United East Conference match of the season. The Seahawks, now 6-4 for the 2024-25 campaign, dominated both doubles and singles play at home, allowing just one point across the entire scorecard in a display of precision and teamwork against the Gators.

The doubles competition set the tone early. In the No. 1 position, Cleo Solomon of Waldorf, Maryland, and Amber Manspeaker of Finksburg, Maryland, secured a 6-1 victory, conceding the lone point of the day to Notre Dame. Solomon, a North Point High School alumna, and Manspeaker, from Westminster High, controlled the match from the outset. The No. 2 tandem of Sarah Levit from Rockville, Maryland, and Giselle Harris of Easton, Maryland, followed with a 6-0 shutout, while Lauren Lovejoy of Newburg, Maryland, and Stella Manns of White Hall, Maryland, completed the doubles sweep with another 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot. Lovejoy hails from La Plata High, and Manns from North Harford High, showcasing the regional talent fueling the Seahawks’ roster.

Singles play saw St. Mary’s maintain their momentum. Solomon led off in the No. 1 slot, dispatching her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in two sets. Manspeaker mirrored the scoreline in the No. 2 position, also winning 6-0, 6-0. Levit, in the No. 3 matchup, continued the trend with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Harris at No. 4 replicated the shutout, taking both sets 6-0. Lovejoy kept the streak alive in the No. 5 slot, winning 6-0, 6-0, and Zoe Wilson of Clarksburg, Maryland, an Academy of the Holy Cross graduate, sealed the sweep in the No. 6 position with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph.

The Seahawks’ depth was evident as six players—all from Maryland—delivered flawless performances in singles, dropping no games across 12 sets. Notre Dame, based in Baltimore, struggled to find footing against a St. Mary’s squad that has now won three of its last four matches, according to the team’s official athletics website. The Gators, competing in the United East Conference alongside St. Mary’s, fell to 1-5 on the season with the loss.

St. Mary’s College, a public honors institution founded in 1840, fields a women’s tennis team with a history of competitive play in NCAA Division III. The United East Conference, formed through a 2021 merger of the Colonial States Athletic Conference and North Eastern Athletic Conference, includes 10 member schools across Maryland, Pennsylvania, and beyond, per the conference website.

Next up, St. Mary’s hosts Penn State Harrisburg on March 29 in St. Mary’s City. The Nittany Lions, coming off a 6-3 loss to Alvernia University on March 25, will look to challenge the Seahawks’ home dominance. With a roster featuring talent from across Maryland, St. Mary’s aims to carry this shutout performance into their upcoming slate as the season progresses.
