ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team delivered a commanding 16-1 win over Notre Dame (MD) in a midweek matchup on Wednesday. The Seahawks (3-9) showcased their offensive prowess against the Gators (5-13), securing a decisive victory at home.
The game began with St. Mary’s taking an early lead, scoring four runs in the first three innings. Aaron Wathen, Trevor Smith, Ian Walters, and Rhett Fletcher each contributed an RBI to establish a 4-0 advantage. Notre Dame responded with their only run in the top of the fourth inning, narrowing the gap to 4-1.

The Seahawks quickly regained momentum in the bottom of the fourth. Ian Walters hit a two-run single, and Rhett Fletcher added a single that brought another runner home, pushing the score to 7-1. St. Mary’s continued to pile on runs in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 10-1. George Berbakos and Trevor Smith delivered key RBI singles, with Smith’s hit driving in two runs.
The sixth inning sealed the blowout as St. Mary’s tacked on six more runs. Eli Shafer and Adrian Auber each recorded RBI singles, while Cole Tarleton contributed a sacrifice fly. Trevor Smith capped the inning with a three-run RBI double down the line, bringing the final tally to 16-1. Trevor Smith led the Seahawks’ offense, finishing with six hits and multiple RBIs, including his standout double in the sixth. Eli Shafer also performed strongly, recording three hits.
