BALTIMORE, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team (6-11) secured a 13-7 victory over Notre Dame (MD) (5-19) in a United East Conference matchup on April 8, 2025, in Baltimore. The Seahawks surged early and held off a Gators rally to claim the win on the road.
St. Mary’s wasted no time, plating four runs in the first inning. George Berbakos drove in two with an RBI double, followed by Trevor Smith’s double to score another. Adrian Auber’s fielder’s choice allowed Ian Walters to cross home, capping the opening frame. The Seahawks added two more in the second, fueled by Cole Tarleton’s triple, and extended their lead to 7-1 in the third when Eli Shafer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Notre Dame responded with four runs in the bottom of the third, narrowing the gap to 7-5. St. Mary’s answered in the fourth, as Berbakos doubled to score Tarleton—who had tripled earlier—and Smith’s groundout brought Berbakos home, pushing the lead to 9-5. Auber’s sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 10-5, though the Gators clawed back with two runs in their half of the inning.
The Seahawks pulled away late. Shafer’s two-run RBI single in the eighth provided insurance, and a final run in the ninth sealed the 13-7 outcome. Notre Dame couldn’t muster a comeback, leaving St. Mary’s victorious.
Berbakos led the offense with three hits, while Tarleton drove in four runs. David Baggott earned the win, pitching three innings and facing 16 batters. Willie Nelson and Jordan Bonhoff each threw two innings, with Colin Patterson and Ryan Matthews each handling one.
The game showcased St. Mary’s offensive depth, with 13 runs on multiple extra-base hits. Tarleton’s four RBIs and Berbakos’s consistent hitting paced the attack, while the pitching staff managed Notre Dame’s surges. The Gators’ five errors, noted in the official box score from smcmathletics.com, aided the Seahawks’ cause.
St. Mary’s, now 6-11, sits mid-pack in the United East Conference standings, per the conference website (unitedeastathletics.com). Notre Dame, at 5-19, remains near the bottom. The win gives the Seahawks momentum heading into their next outing.
