WALDORF, Md. — Two Waldorf residents face charges after a series of crimes involving counterfeit money, burglary, and stolen vehicles in Charles County, authorities announced. Titus Zing Mayo, 21, and Niquerial Battle, 21, were arrested following a months-long investigation that began with a February 24 incident at a fast-food drive-through on Mall Circle, where a suspect used fake currency and fled from police.

The investigation started when a cashier reported a male suspect passing a counterfeit bill, noting what appeared to be a firearm in his lap. The cashier provided change and alerted the Charles County Sheriff’s Office as the suspect drove off in a BMW. Officers spotted the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver sped away, later abandoning the BMW on Mattawoman Lane. The vehicle, confirmed stolen from another county, had an altered VIN and fake currency scattered nearby. A search warrant revealed documents linking to a suspect and additional counterfeit bills inside the car.

Detectives later identified Mayo as the primary suspect after he was caught on surveillance accessing the impounded BMW at a storage lot, leaving incriminating evidence. Battle was identified as an accomplice. Arrest warrants were issued on March 13. The next day, Battle was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, theft, and related offenses. She was released on an unsecured bond by a district court commissioner.

Mayo evaded capture until March 19, when Neighborhood Enforcement Officers saw him driving a stolen Chevrolet Corvette near St. Ignatius and Village Street. He fled again, but on March 20, with help from the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force, authorities apprehended him while he operated the same stolen Corvette. A search of Mayo’s residence uncovered over $12,000 in counterfeit bills and an extended handgun magazine, further tying him to the crimes. Detectives also connected Mayo to similar counterfeit currency incidents at local pizza carry-outs.

Mayo faces charges including burglary, possession and distribution of forged U.S. currency, auto theft, and other related crimes. He is being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. Battle’s charges stem from her alleged role in the burglary and theft schemes. Detective Chadbourne is leading the ongoing investigation, with authorities collaborating across jurisdictions to explore potential links to similar cases.
