ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — Sophomore Declan Horton of St. Mary’s College of Maryland reached his 100th career point on April 12, 2025, during a hard-fought men’s lacrosse game against No. 17 Dickinson College. Despite a late rally, the Seahawks (7-5) fell 14-11 to the Red Devils (8-5) in a non-conference matchup at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
Horton, needing two points to hit the milestone, delivered a five-point performance, including three goals and two assists. He achieved his 100th point with an assist in the second quarter. The game saw St. Mary’s College mount a six-goal run in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to 13-11 with 5:32 remaining, but Dickinson held firm to secure the victory.
The Red Devils struck first with a man-up goal by Blake Resnick at 12:26 in the first quarter. St. Mary’s responded with unassisted goals from senior Keegan Preis and Horton, taking a 2-1 lead. Dickinson regained momentum with three consecutive goals, including two from Landen Hyatt, to lead 4-2. Senior Aiden Doyle tied the game at 4-4 with two quick goals late in the second quarter, but Dickinson’s Luke Whalen scored twice in 40 seconds to give the Red Devils a 6-4 halftime edge.
Horton opened the third quarter with a goal 32 seconds in, cutting the deficit to 6-5. Dickinson then surged with a 7-0 run, building a 13-5 lead by early in the fourth. The Seahawks battled back with six straight goals, led by Horton and senior captain Nate Hochrein, but an unassisted goal by Dickinson’s Owen Porter at 3:58 halted the comeback. Red Devils goalkeeper Rocco Bognet made two critical stops late to seal the 14-11 win.
Dickinson outshot St. Mary’s 46-34 and held a 43-29 advantage in ground balls while winning 15 of 29 face-offs. The Seahawks converted both extra-man opportunities, holding Dickinson to 1-for-2. Horton led St. Mary’s with three goals, two assists, and two ground balls, while Hochrein added three goals, one assist, and two ground balls. Junior Matteo Ciccarello collected eight ground balls and won 13 of 26 face-offs. Sophomore goalkeeper Ty Grove set a season-high with nine saves.
For Dickinson, Hyatt and Whalen each scored four goals, with Ramsey Huggins contributing three goals and two assists. Bognet recorded nine saves, anchoring the defense.
The game showcased St. Mary’s resilience, with Horton’s milestone highlighting individual excellence amid a team effort. The Seahawks, part of the United East Conference, have faced a competitive season, with this loss marking their fifth against a ranked opponent.
