St. Mary’s College of Maryland senior outfielder Cole Tarleton was selected as the United East Conference Baseball Player of the Week on April 14, 2025, marking his first career weekly honor. The announcement came from the conference office following a standout performance during a 3-0 week for the Seahawks.
Tarleton, a 6-2 centerfielder from Hollywood, Maryland, led St. Mary’s (8-10, 8-2 UEC) to victories over Notre Dame of Maryland University and Saint Elizabeth University. On April 8, the Seahawks secured a 13-7 road win against Notre Dame (Md.). Tarleton went 4-for-5, setting a career-high for hits in a game, including a triple. He drove in two runs, scored twice, and stole a base. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association notes that such multi-hit games are critical for team momentum in conference play.

The team continued its success with a doubleheader sweep against Saint Elizabeth on April 13, winning 5-1 and 12-2 (eight innings). In the first game, Tarleton went 2-for-3 with another triple, recording an RBI and a run while surpassing 150 career hits with his second hit. In the second game, he finished 2-for-4, hitting a home run and a double, and set a personal best with four RBIs while scoring once. His offensive output contributed to St. Mary’s 8-2 conference record, placing them second in the United East standings, per the conference website.
Tarleton’s versatility in the outfield and at the plate has been a cornerstone for the Seahawks. His triple against Notre Dame and home run against Saint Elizabeth highlight his ability to deliver extra-base hits, a key factor in St. Mary’s recent offensive surge. The NCAA reports that players with Tarleton’s speed and power often anchor small-college lineups, impacting both run production and defensive stability.
The Seahawks’ 3-0 week improved their season outlook after a challenging non-conference schedule. The win over Notre Dame (Md.) showcased their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, amassing 13 runs, while the sweep of Saint Elizabeth demonstrated pitching depth and offensive consistency. St. Mary’s pitching staff allowed only 10 runs across the three games, with the bullpen closing out the abbreviated second game against Saint Elizabeth.
Tarleton joins a list of 2025 United East Players of the Week, including Brendan Henn (Penn State Harrisburg, Feb. 24), Hunter Rauch (Keystone, March 3), and Jake Fallers (Penn State Abington, April 7), among others. The weekly award recognizes individual excellence in batting, pitching, or fielding, based on nominations from conference coaches and sports information staff.
St. Mary’s returns to action on April 16, facing Rosemont College (10-18, 4-6 UEC) at 3 p.m. at the Hawk’s Nest in Leonardtown. The game is part of a critical stretch as the Seahawks aim to maintain their position near the top of the conference. Fans can purchase tickets through the St. Mary’s athletics website at https://smcmathletics.com/tickets or follow live stats at https://smcmathletics.com/sports/baseball/schedule.
Rosemont, coming off a split with Cairn University, presents a challenge with a balanced lineup led by senior infielder Luke Franklin, who bats .320, according to Rosemont’s team stats. St. Mary’s will rely on Tarleton and junior pitcher Ryan Barkett, who threw six innings in the Saint Elizabeth opener, to keep their momentum.
