ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team (9-10) secured a 10-4 victory against the Rosemont University Ravens (11-19) in a United East Conference matchup on April 16, 2025, at the Hawk’s Nest. The Seahawks used a balanced offensive attack and solid pitching to pull away from the Ravens in a game that saw multiple scoring bursts.

The Seahawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when George Berbakos delivered an RBI double, giving St. Mary’s a 1-0 lead. Rosemont answered with a run in the top of the second to tie the game. St. Mary’s responded decisively in the third, plating four runs. Avery Sims scored on a wild pitch, Ian Walters drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Rhett Fletcher added a run via a fielder’s choice, and Corey Brown capped the inning with an RBI triple, pushing the lead to 5-1.

In the fifth, St. Mary’s extended their advantage with two more runs. Layne Lesko and Eli Shafer each drew bases-loaded walks, making the score 7-1. Rosemont managed a single run in the seventh, but the Seahawks put the game out of reach in the eighth with three additional runs. Cole Tarleton and Rhett Fletcher both recorded RBI singles, with Fletcher’s hit driving in two, bringing the score to 10-2. The Ravens scored twice in the ninth, but St. Mary’s closed out the 10-4 win.

Trevor Smith led the Seahawks’ offense with three hits, while Rhett Fletcher drove in three runs. On the mound, Jack Overton pitched five innings, allowing one earned run. Relievers Anthony Walsh, Willie Nelson, Logan Connolly, and Colin Patterson each threw one inning to secure the victory.

The Seahawks’ offensive efficiency, particularly in key innings, aligns with trends in NCAA Division III baseball, where teams often capitalize on opponents’ mistakes like wild pitches and fielder’s choices to build leads. St. Mary’s ability to spread scoring across multiple innings showcased their depth, a critical factor in conference play.

Rosemont struggled to counter the Seahawks’ consistent scoring, managing only four runs despite a competitive record entering the game. The Ravens’ two late runs in the ninth were not enough to close the gap created by St. Mary’s earlier surges.

The win improves St. Mary’s standing as they head into a doubleheader against Penn State Harrisburg on April 19 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in Middletown, Pa. The Seahawks aim to build on this performance as they push for a strong finish in the United East Conference.
