La Plata, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) golf team wrapped up a competitive 2025 season with a strong showing at the NJCAA Region 20 Tournament, held April 18-19 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana, earning two players All-Region honors and demonstrating promise for future seasons.

Freshman Mason Chandler led the Hawks, securing First Team All-Region recognition with consistent and composed performances. His ability to navigate challenging course conditions and maintain focus under pressure was a highlight of the tournament.

Sophomore George Libby also excelled, earning Second Team All-Region honors for his contributions on and off the course. As team captain, Libby provided leadership and delivered key scores that strengthened the Hawks’ standing. His experience helped guide younger players through the high-stakes tournament environment.

The Hawks finished fourth among eight teams, a solid result against strong competition from schools in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO). The tournament showcased the region’s top junior college talent, and CSM’s performance reflects their growth throughout the season. The team has a history of success, including a Region 20 championship in 2019.

In the spring, CSM competed in several preparatory tournaments, including the MD JUCO Championship on April 20, where they secured a first-place finish against three other teams. These events helped the team refine their skills and build chemistry, setting the stage for their strong regional showing.

CSM’s golf program has benefited from access to local courses like Swan Point Golf Club for practice, enabling players like Chandler and Libby to develop into regional standouts. The team’s success is part of a broader resurgence for CSM athletics, which has seen increased investment in facilities and coaching.

Looking ahead, the Hawks are poised for continued growth. With Chandler expected to return for his sophomore season and a talented recruiting class on the horizon, CSM aims to contend for a Region 20 title in 2026. The team’s focus will be on building depth and maintaining this year’s momentum.

The NJCAA Region 20 Tournament served as a qualifier for the NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship, scheduled for May 20-23, 2025, at Swan Lake Resort. While CSM did not advance as a team, Chandler’s performance has positioned him as a potential at-large qualifier, pending final selections.

CSM’s golf program is part of the MD JUCO conference, which includes 17 community colleges and has a strong tradition of athletic excellence. The Hawks’ recent achievements add to this legacy and highlight their role in developing student-athletes.

As the season concludes, the team will shift to offseason training and recruitment. With a dedicated coaching staff and a solid foundation, CSM Golf is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory.
