BALTIMORE, April 28, 2025 — The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 in a closely contested game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, with 22,775 fans in attendance. The Orioles (11-17, 5th in AL East) capitalized on early offense, led by Ryan O’Hearn’s three-run homer, to hold off the first-place Yankees (17-12), who mounted a late rally but fell short.

The Orioles struck first in the second inning when Ramón Laureano doubled, scoring Jackson Holliday for a 1-0 lead. In the third, O’Hearn’s fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot off Yankees starter Will Warren, drove in Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman, extending Baltimore’s lead to 4-0. Warren (1-1, 5.63 ERA) struggled, allowing four runs on six hits over 3.1 innings.

Yankees’ bats were quiet early against Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano (3-1, 3.00 ERA), who pitched five scoreless innings, striking out eight. New York broke through in the seventh when Aaron Judge’s forceout scored pinch-hitter Oswaldo Cabrera, cutting the deficit to 4-1. In the eighth, Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells hit consecutive RBI doubles off Gregory Soto, bringing the score to 4-3. Volpe’s double, on his 24th birthday, scored Paul Goldschmidt, and Wells drove in Volpe.

Félix Bautista secured the save (4, 2.25 ERA) for Baltimore, striking out Judge and Cody Bellinger in a scoreless ninth. The Orioles’ bullpen, including Keegan Akin, Yennier Cano, and Soto, navigated late pressure to preserve the lead. Laureano contributed two doubles and a stolen base, while Cedric Mullins went 2-for-3 with a walk.

The Yankees left nine runners on base, going 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Judge and Trent Grisham each had two hits, but New York’s 15 strikeouts hindered their comeback. Baltimore’s defense, despite an error by Ramón Urías, held firm, with Mullins robbing a potential home run in the fifth.

The game, lasting 2 hours and 46 minutes, was played under clear skies with 73-degree weather. The loss keeps the Yankees atop the AL East, while the Orioles gained ground in the division race. Both teams continue their series in Baltimore, with the next game set for April 29.
