HARTFORD, Conn. — The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, fell 7-4 to the Hartford Yard Goats, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, on April 29, 2025, at Dunkin’ Park. Chesapeake (11-11) committed a season-high four errors, allowing four unearned runs, as Hartford (13-8) surged early to secure the victory.
Hartford scored six runs in the first three innings against Baysox starter Braxton Bragg (L, 0-1). Benny Montgomery’s solo home run in the first opened the scoring. In the second, two Chesapeake errors fueled a three-run rally, with Jose Cordova’s sacrifice fly and Cole Carrigg’s two-run single building a 4-0 lead. Bragg, in his first Double-A start, pitched four innings, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits, with one walk and five strikeouts. The outing marked his first earned runs of 2025 after 21 scoreless innings to start the season.

Chesapeake responded in the third with Frederick Bencosme’s RBI double, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Hartford answered immediately, as Kyle Karros doubled in a run and Bryant Betancourt singled to score Karros, extending the lead to 6-1. Jose Torres’ solo home run off reliever Yaqui Rivera in the sixth pushed Hartford’s advantage to 7-1.
The Baysox rallied in the seventh, scoring three runs. A pitch with the bases loaded hit Adam Retzbach, and Hudson Haskin’s single to center drove in two, narrowing the gap to 7-4. Hartford’s bullpen, led by Carson Skipper (W, 2-1), who threw 1.1 shutout innings, and Brayan Castillo (S, 2), who struck out two in a scoreless ninth, held firm. Hartford starter Connor Staine struck out seven in 4.2 innings, limiting Chesapeake’s offense.
Chesapeake’s Preston Johnson provided 2.1 innings of shutout relief, retiring all seven batters faced. The Baysox recorded six hits, with Bencosme and Haskin driving in runs. Hartford’s eight hits included Montgomery’s homer and Carrigg’s two RBIs. Chesapeake’s four errors, a defensive low for 2025, contrasted with Hartford’s error-free play.
The game, part of a 12-game Baysox road trip, is available for replay. Chesapeake faces Hartford again on April 30 at 7:10 p.m., with Trace Bright scheduled to start against Gabriel Hughes. The Baysox return home on May 13 at 6:05 p.m. to host the Akron RubberDucks, the Cleveland Guardians’ Double-A affiliate.
The Eastern League’s Chesapeake Baysox, affiliated with the Orioles since 1993, develop prospects for Baltimore’s major league roster. Hartford, a Rockies affiliate since 2015, plays its 10th season at Dunkin’ Park. The loss dropped Chesapeake to .500, while Hartford strengthened its Northeast Division standing.
