HARTFORD, Conn. — The Chesapeake Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, fell 6-3 to the Hartford Yard Goats, Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, on April 30, 2025, at Dunkin’ Park. The loss marks the Baysox’s third consecutive defeat, dropping their April record to 11-12 after an 8-4 start.

Hartford (14-8) surged ahead in the fifth inning, scoring five runs off Chesapeake starter Trace Bright (1-4). Bright, the Orioles’ No. 25 prospect, had held the Yard Goats scoreless through four innings, facing one over the minimum. In the fifth, two singles and back-to-back walks forced in Hartford’s first run. Cole Carrigg then hit an opposite-field grand slam, giving the Yard Goats a 5-0 lead. Bright finished with five innings pitched, allowing four hits, three walks, and five runs while striking out a season-high six.

Hartford’s Gabriel Hughes (1-1) earned his first win, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout. The Baysox mounted a comeback in the seventh when Tavian Josenberger’s RBI single scored Creed Willems, breaking the shutout. In the eighth, Adam Retzbach’s RBI triple and Hudson Haskin’s RBI double cut the deficit to 5-3. With the tying runs at the plate, Hartford reliever Alec Barger induced a groundout from Jeremiah Jackson and a pop-out from Willems to end the threat.

Chesapeake’s bullpen provided relief. Houston Roth struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, and Juan De Los Santos, in his Double-A debut, recorded the final out of the eighth. Hartford’s Collin Baumgartner (2) secured the save, striking out two in a scoreless ninth.

The Baysox struggled after a strong start to the season, losing eight of their last 11 games. Their offense showed signs of life late, with Retzbach and Haskin delivering key extra-base hits, but they couldn’t overcome the fifth-inning deficit. Hartford capitalized on Bright’s control issues, with the grand slam proving decisive.

Chesapeake continues its 12-game road trip with another game against Hartford on May 1, 2025, at 7:10 p.m. at Dunkin’ Park. Ryan Long is slated to start for the Baysox against Hartford’s Mason Albright. The Baysox return home on May 13 to face the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, at 6:05 p.m.
