ST. MARY’S CITY, Md., May 1, 2025 — The top-seeded St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s tennis team defeated No. 4 Lancaster Bible College 4-0 in the United East Conference Championship semifinal on Wednesday. The Seahawks secured the necessary four points to advance to the championship match against No. 2 Penn State Harrisburg, set for May 4 at the Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pennsylvania.
The Seahawks dominated early in doubles play. Lauren Lovejoy (Newburg, Md./La Plata) and Stella Manns (White Hall, Md./North Harford) earned an automatic win in the No. 3 doubles spot due to no opponent from Lancaster Bible. In the No. 1 doubles position, Cleo Solomon (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and Amber Manspeaker (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory, giving St. Mary’s a 2-0 lead.

In singles competition, Zoe Wilson (Clarksburg, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) secured the first point for the Seahawks with an automatic win in the No. 6 spot, again due to no opponent. Lauren Lovejoy followed with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 singles matchup, bringing St. Mary’s to three points. Sarah Levit (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) sealed the team’s advancement with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 3 singles match, concluding the semifinal with a 4-0 sweep.
The United East Conference Championship tournament format requires the first team to reach four points to win, allowing St. Mary’s to end the match early after securing the necessary points. The Seahawks’ efficient performance in both doubles and singles showcased their depth and preparation as the top seed.
St. Mary’s College, located in St. Mary’s City, has a strong tennis program with a history of success in the United East Conference.
