HARTFORD, Conn. — The Chesapeake Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, fell 3-2 in 10 innings to the Hartford Yard Goats, Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, on May 1, 2025, at Dunkin’ Park, marking their fourth consecutive loss. A sacrifice fly by GJ Hill in the extra frame sealed the victory for Hartford (15-8), as the Baysox (11-13) struggled to capitalize on opportunities despite a strong bullpen effort.

Hartford struck first in the second inning against Chesapeake starter Ryan Long. GJ Hill’s RBI groundout scored a run, continuing the Yard Goats’ trend of scoring first in all three games this series. Long, 25, pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits, with four strikeouts and no walks. His control was notable, having issued only three walks in 23 innings this season.

The Baysox answered in the third when Douglas Hodo III singled, driving in a run after Hartford’s Mason Albright walked the leadoff hitter, tying the game at 1-1. Hartford regained the lead in the fourth, capitalizing on Chesapeake errors. Kyle Karros reached on a throwing error by Anthony Servideo, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on Jose Torres’ single, which was followed by a missed catch error by Tavian Josenberger. Long limited the damage, stranding the bases loaded with two strikeouts and a flyout.

Hodo leveled the score at 2-2 in the fifth with a solo home run, his third of the season and second multi-RBI game. “Hodo’s homer was a spark, but we couldn’t sustain the momentum,” a team recap noted on the Baysox’s official site. The Baysox bullpen, featuring Gerald Ogando, Daniel Lloyd, and Keagan Gillies, delivered 4.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts, keeping the game tied through regulation.

Hartford’s bullpen, including Evan Shawver, Bryce McGowan, and Evan Turner (1-0), matched with four scoreless innings. In the 10th, Chesapeake failed to score with their automatic runner, setting the stage for Hartford’s walk-off. Against Peter Van Loon (1-2), Karros, the automatic runner, advanced to third on Torres’ single. An intentional walk to Juan Guerrero loaded the bases, and Hill’s sacrifice fly to right scored Karros for the 3-2 win.

The Baysox, now 1-1 in extra-inning games, were hindered by two fielding errors and stranded runners in key moments. Hodo’s two RBIs led the offense, but the team couldn’t overcome Hartford’s clutch hitting. The Yard Goats improved to 15-8, showcasing their strong early-season form in the Eastern League.

Chesapeake’s 12-game road trip continues with a 7:10 p.m. game on May 2 at Dunkin’ Park, pitting Baysox right-hander Levi Wells against Hartford’s Jack Mahoney. The team returns home on May 13 to face the Akron RubberDucks at 6:05 p.m., aiming to reverse their skid and regain momentum in the Double-A standings.
