LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks announced that the Great Mills Swimming Pool will close from May 15 to May 23, 2025, for biannual maintenance and removal of its dome bubble, transitioning to an outdoor facility. The pool will reopen on May 24, 2025, kicking off the summer season with a Splash Bash Pool Party on May 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., featuring music, games, and open swim.

The Splash Bash, held at the Great Mills Swimming Pool, is open to all without advance registration, though standard admission fees apply. Daily admission costs $8 for adult county residents, $6 for senior and youth county residents (17 and younger), or a pool pass can be used. Admission and membership details are available online. The event celebrates the start of the outdoor pool season, inviting families to enjoy a festive afternoon in the water.

Starting June 16, 2025, the pool will operate under summer hours: Monday through Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. These extended hours accommodate swimmers throughout the summer, providing access for morning laps, family outings, and evening recreation. The Great Mills Swimming Pool, located at 21100 Great Mills Road, is a key community facility managed by the Department of Recreation & Parks, offering aquatic programs and open swim opportunities.

The maintenance closure ensures the pool remains safe and operational for the outdoor season, with tasks including dome removal and equipment inspections. The biannual maintenance is part of St. Mary’s County’s commitment to maintaining high-quality recreational facilities, as outlined on the county’s aquatics webpage. The department encourages residents to plan their summer visits, noting that pool passes offer cost-effective access for frequent swimmers. Additional aquatic programs, such as swim lessons and fitness classes, will resume with the summer schedule, with details to be posted online. The reopening of the pool as an outdoor facility aligns with warmer weather, making it a popular destination for families and fitness enthusiasts through the summer months.
