PORTLAND, Maine — The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, erupted for five runs in the 10th inning to secure a 9-4 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, on May 8, 2025, at Delta Dental Park. The win marked the Baysox’s fifth straight, their longest streak of the season.
Tied at 3-3 entering extra innings, Chesapeake (16-14) capitalized against Portland relievers Alex Hoppe (1-1) and Gabriel Jackson. Creed Willems, the Orioles’ No. 12 prospect, sparked the rally with an RBI single, scoring Jeremiah Jackson for a 5-4 lead. Willems, who fell a homer shy of the cycle, went 3-for-5 and has hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games. Anthony Servideo drew a bases-loaded walk, his fourth of the night, to plate another run. Adam Retzbach then delivered a two-run single, pushing the score to 8-4. Retzbach matched his career-high with three hits and four RBI, batting .400 over his last 10 games. Douglas Hodo III capped the inning with an RBI single, extending his hit streak to six games. The five-run frame was Chesapeake’s highest-scoring inning this season.

Right-hander Peter Van Loon (3-2) earned the win, striking out three over two innings. Starter Ryan Long pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts, maintaining a 2.89 ERA through six starts. Reliever Daniel Lloyd threw three scoreless innings, extending his streak to eight consecutive scoreless innings over four outings.
The Baysox excelled with runners in scoring position, going 6-for-16. Portland’s offense struggled to respond, managing only four runs despite an early push.
Chesapeake’s road trip continues against the Sea Dogs on May 9 at 6:00 p.m., with Levi Wells scheduled to start against Tyler Uberstine. The Baysox return home on May 13 to face the Akron RubberDucks, the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, at 6:05 p.m.
The victory highlights Chesapeake’s offensive depth and bullpen strength. Willems and Retzbach’s clutch performances, paired with Servideo’s plate discipline, powered the extra-inning surge. The team’s ability to string together hits with runners on base has been a key factor in their recent success. As the Baysox chase a playoff spot, their current streak underscores their potential in the Double-A Eastern League.
