LATHAM, N.Y., May 12, 2025 — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team secured two of four major United East Conference awards for 2025, with seven players earning all-conference honors, the league announced May 7. Senior captain Hailey Betch was named Offensive Player of the Year, and junior Carsyn Smith received Defensive Player of the Year, highlighting the team’s dominance in the conference.

Betch, Smith, senior captain Colin Horton, and junior Katelin Scala were selected for the First Team, while seniors Ella Baynes and Kayla Kopf, along with sophomore Hope Harrison, earned Second Team honors. The awards follow the Seahawks’ fourth consecutive United East Conference championship title and an undefeated regular season, though the team exited in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament.

Hailey Betch, a 6-foot attacker from Severna Park, Maryland, claimed her second United East Offensive Player of the Year award, having also won in 2023. She led the conference with 77 points and 34 assists, tied for third with 43 goals, and tied for fifth with 51 draw controls. A four-time First Team All-United East selection, Betch concludes her career as the program’s all-time points leader with 323 points, including 215 goals and 108 assists across 74 games. She earned three United East Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.

Carsyn Smith, a 5-foot-5 defender from Crownsville, Maryland, was named Defensive Player of the Year, her second First Team selection after 2023. She topped the conference with 29 caused turnovers, ranked second with 43 ground balls, and contributed 28 draw controls, a goal, and an assist. Smith secured three Defensive Player of the Week awards during the season.

Colin Horton, a 5-foot-9 midfielder from University Park, Maryland, earned her third First Team All-United East nod, previously honored in 2022 and 2023. She led the conference with 59 goals, tied for second with 68 points, and ranked fourth with 52 draw controls, while leading the team with 12 free-position goals. Horton, who received both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, finished her career with 215 points, 183 goals, 32 assists, and 189 draw controls in 62 games.

Katelin Scala, a 5-foot-5 attacker from Catonsville, Maryland, collected her third consecutive First Team award. She ranked second in the conference with 23 assists, fifth with 51 points, and contributed 28 goals, 38 draw controls, and 20 ground balls.

Ella Baynes, a 5-foot-2 attacker from Baltimore, Maryland, earned her first postseason honor, tying for third on the team with 15 assists and scoring 42 points with 27 goals and 13 caused turnovers. Kayla Kopf, a 5-foot-8 defender from Annapolis, Maryland, also received her first all-conference recognition, tying for third with 13 caused turnovers and adding 14 ground balls. Sophomore Hope Harrison, a 5-foot-5 midfielder from Catonsville, Maryland, marked her first all-conference honor with 23 goals and 32 points in 18 games.

The Seahawks, with a 10-8 overall record and 4-0 in conference play, clinched their fourth straight United East regular-season and tournament titles, earning their 12th NCAA Division III tournament bid. Nine Seahawk women’s lacrosse players have now earned Player of the Year awards in program history, including five from the Capital Athletic Conference and four from the United East Conference.

St. Mary’s College, located in St. Mary’s City, Maryland, competes in the United East Conference and has built a strong women’s lacrosse program under head coach Brittney Morris. The team’s consistent conference success, including four undefeated seasons, reflects its competitive strength.
