WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Commanders will make their first-ever appearance on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” docuseries, as announced by HBO and the NFL on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. The in-season edition, focusing on the NFC East division, will feature the Commanders alongside the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants. New episodes will stream on HBO Max every Tuesday in December 2025, continuing into the 2026 playoffs. This marks the second year HBO has showcased an entire division, following the AFC North in 2024.

The Commanders, one of seven NFL teams yet to appear on “Hard Knocks” since its 2001 debut with the Baltimore Ravens, join the Eagles, who are also making their first appearance fresh off a Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Cowboys, featured three times previously, last appeared in 2021, while the Giants, who starred in the 2024 offseason edition, have never been part of the training camp version. The Buffalo Bills will headline this year’s training camp edition, set for summer 2025.

“We are thrilled to provide ‘Hard Knocks’ fans a summer with the Bills and winter with the Cowboys, Giants, Commanders and Eagles in the first year of our exciting new deal with NFL Films,” said Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller, co-executive vice presidents of HBO Documentary and Family Programming, and Bentley Weiner, senior vice president of HBO Sports Documentaries, in a press release. “There will be no shortage of star power.”

The NFC East, known for its competitive nature with no repeat winner since 2004, offers a compelling backdrop for the series. The Commanders’ inclusion reflects their rising national profile, underscored by a 2025 schedule featuring eight standalone games, including a Christmas Day matchup and the NFL’s first game in Spain. With five primetime games, tied for the second-most in the league, the team is gaining significant visibility.

The Commanders’ turnaround from a 4-13 record in 2024 to a 12-5 finish in 2025, culminating in their first NFC Championship appearance since 1991, has fueled this attention. Quarterback Jayden Daniels, named the 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year after breaking multiple records, has been a key driver. Head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters have also transformed the team’s roster and culture, earning praise for their strategic overhaul.

The “Hard Knocks” series, produced by NFL Films, offers an in-depth look at NFL teams, capturing training camp rigors, roster decisions, and in-season dynamics. The in-season format, introduced in recent years, follows teams through the regular season and playoffs, providing fans with behind-the-scenes access to practices, meetings, and personal stories. For the Commanders, the series will spotlight their resurgence and the leadership of Daniels, Quinn, and Peters as they navigate the competitive NFC East.

The decision to feature the NFC East aligns with the division’s storied rivalries and star players, ensuring high viewer interest. The Commanders’ journey, from a struggling franchise to a playoff contender, adds a narrative of redemption to the series. Fans can expect coverage of key games, including the team’s primetime and international matchups, as well as insights into the division’s tight race, where every game carries playoff implications.

HBO’s partnership with NFL Films, renewed for 2025, aims to capitalize on the division’s drama and the Commanders’ breakout season. The series will also highlight the Eagles’ post-Super Bowl campaign, the Cowboys’ perennial spotlight, and the Giants’ efforts to rebound after their 2024 feature. With episodes streaming weekly, the docuseries will build anticipation through the season’s final weeks and into the postseason.

The Commanders’ “Hard Knocks” debut marks a milestone for the franchise, reflecting its growing relevance in the NFL landscape. As the team prepares for a high-stakes season, the series will offer fans an unprecedented look at the players and coaches driving Washington’s revival.
