WALDORF, Md. — A 22-year-old Fort Washington man was arrested on June 5, 2025, following a series of carjackings and a theft in Charles County that ended in a vehicle crash. John Michael Stoddard, identified as the primary suspect, faces charges including carjacking, theft, and assault after fleeing from police and overturning a stolen vehicle on May 31. The incident began with a reported theft of a large screen TV and escalated into a multi-county pursuit.

On May 31 at 7:30 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Office patrol officers responded to the 11900 block of Acton Lane in Waldorf for a theft report. While investigating, officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle at a nearby business and attempted to stop it. The driver, later identified as Stoddard, fled, leading police on a chase. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed and overturned on Billingsley Road near a gas station. Stoddard exited the wrecked car, attempted to carjack one individual without success, and then successfully carjacked another vehicle at a nearby business. Neither carjacking victim was injured.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division discovered that the vehicle Stoddard was driving during the chase had been carjacked in a different county on May 19, with the victim of that incident sustaining serious injuries. Further investigation identified Stoddard and a second suspect, Jazmine Detwaina Catlett, 37, of Clinton, who was involved in the initial TV theft. Detectives sought arrest warrants for both, but only Stoddard was issued a warrant, while Catlett received a court summons.

Stoddard was apprehended on June 5 in another county and will be returned to Charles County to face multiple charges, including carjacking, theft, assault, and related offenses. Detective Logsdon is leading the ongoing investigation, which continues to explore the full scope of the incidents. Authorities have not released details about the specific county where the May 19 carjacking occurred or the condition of the injured victim from that case.
