ST. MARY’S CITY, Md., June 20, 2025 — St. Mary’s College of Maryland clinched the United East Conference Presidents’ Cup for the third consecutive year, as announced by the league office on June 19. The Seahawks, in their fourth year in the conference, also earned the Top Overall Athletic Program – Women’s Team award for the second year running, solidifying their dominance in the 2024-25 season.
“Winning the Presidents’ Cup for a third straight year is an incredible honor and testament to the relentless dedication, teamwork, and excellence of our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff,” said Crystal Gibson, fifth-year Director of Athletics & Recreation. “This achievement reflects not only our athletic success, but the strength of our Seahawk family and entire campus community.”
The Presidents’ Cup recognizes athletic achievements based on a scoring system that rewards success in regular-season and postseason competition. St. Mary’s College edged out Penn State Harrisburg by a 1.70-point margin to secure the Cup, maintaining the top spot throughout the year. The Seahawks led by 3.28 points over Cairn University after the fall season and held a 3.00-point advantage over Penn College following the winter season.
The women’s teams shone brightly, capturing the Top Overall Women’s Athletic Program title with a 2.79-point margin over Harrisburg. “I am immensely proud of our SMCM women’s sports team for capturing the title of top overall women’s athletic program for a second year in a row. This award is the culmination of their unyielding drive, discipline, and heart showcased every single day to achieve their full potential and strive for excellence at every level,” said Nairem Moran, fourth-year director of athletic communications and senior woman administrator.

St. Mary’s College dominated with eight United East tournament championships in women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and women’s outdoor track and field. The Seahawks also secured six regular-season titles in field hockey, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and women’s tennis. Six teams—men’s cross country, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s outdoor track and field—finished as tournament runners-up, while the baseball team reached the Final Four.
Competing in 17 of the conference’s 20 championship sports, St. Mary’s College saw every eligible team advance to the postseason for the second consecutive year. Penn State Harrisburg narrowly won the Top Overall Men’s Athletic Program award, surpassing St. Mary’s by 0.13 points.
