ST. MARY’S COUNTY, Md. — Deputy State Fire Marshals arrested Michael Robert Guy, 47, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, on June 23, 2025, for allegedly setting his home on fire early Monday morning and his parents’ car on fire two days earlier. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office assisted in his apprehension, and Guy faces charges of first- and second-degree arson. He is being held without bond at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.
Just after 1:00 a.m. on June 23, 2025, the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dwelling fire at 27099 Morganza Turner Road. Firefighters encountered heavy flames in the attached garage, which spread to the rest of the home, resulting in a complete loss. The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the fire’s origin and cause. Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the fire was intentionally set and identified Guy as the suspect. He was arrested shortly after with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack.

During an interview with investigators, Guy admitted to setting his parents’ 2003 Cadillac on fire on Saturday, June 21, 2025, near the intersection of Ted Drive and Ted Circle in Avenue. That fire was already under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and Guy’s admission linked him to the incident. The investigation into both fires remains ongoing.
Guy has a history of legal issues in St. Mary’s County. On October 14, 2018, Corporal O’Connor responded to a motor vehicle accident in a parking lot in the 22700 block of Three Notch Road, California, where Guy, then 40, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with attempting to drive while impaired by drugs and alcohol and attempting to drive while impaired by alcohol.
In July 2022, Guy faced multiple arrests for violating a protective order. On July 16, police responded to the 40000 block of Old Horse Landing Road after reports that Guy, then 44, had been at the victim’s property, breaching a court order. He was arrested and charged with violating the protective order. On July 18, the victim reported that Guy contacted her through social media, violating the order’s no-contact provision. Police confirmed the violation, leading to another arrest for violating the protective order and harassment. On July 19, the victim again reported Guy’s attempts to contact her via social media, resulting in a third arrest that week for the same charges. A court date for those violations was set for September 12, 2022.
The recent arson charges mark a significant escalation in Guy’s criminal activity. The house fire displaced residents and caused extensive property damage, while the car fire destroyed his parents’ vehicle. The Office of the State Fire Marshal continues to gather evidence to determine the full circumstances of both incidents. Authorities have not released information on a motive or additional suspects at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office and Fire Marshal’s Office are collaborating to ensure a thorough investigation. Guy’s detention without bond reflects the severity of the charges, and a court date for the arson case has not yet been announced.
