LEONARDTOWN, Md.— The St. Mary’s County Public Schools Board of Education approved a series of administrative appointments and transfers during its meeting on June 18, 2025, as announced by Superintendent of Schools Dr. J. Scott Smith. Effective July 1, 2025, nine educators will assume new roles across various schools and departments, while two administrators will transfer to new positions within the district.
Kelly Bridges, previously an assistant principal at Leonardtown High School, was appointed supervisor of instruction for English in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Bridges holds a master’s degree from McDaniel College and a bachelor’s degree from Saint Vincent College. Graham Coombs, a mathematics teacher at Leonardtown High School, will step into the role of assistant principal at the same school. Coombs earned a master’s degree from McDaniel College and a bachelor’s degree from Grove City College.









Cortney Dvorak, currently a supervisor of instruction, was named academic dean at George Washington Carver Elementary School. Dvorak holds a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and a bachelor’s degree from Towson University. Christopher Dyson, assistant principal at Green Holly Elementary School, will become principal at Ridge Elementary School. Dyson has a master’s degree from Walden University and a bachelor’s degree from High Point University.
Kimberly Edwards, who served as acting assistant principal at Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School, was appointed to the permanent assistant principal position. Edwards holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree from Towson University. LaToya Fox, an administrative intern at Spring Ridge Middle School, will take on the role of assistant principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School. Fox earned a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina.
Phil Longo, previously a facilities manager at TOP Golf in National Harbor and Alexandria, was appointed operations coordinator in the Department of Operations. Longo holds a master’s degree from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University. Monique Osborne, a school counselor at Captain Walter Francis Duke Elementary School, will become assistant principal at Park Hall Elementary School. Osborne has a master’s degree from Bowie State University and a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College.
Dr. Wendy Zimmerman, a supervisor of instruction, was appointed acting principal at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School. Zimmerman holds a doctorate from the University of Maryland at College Park, a master’s degree from Towson University, and a bachelor’s degree from Millersville University.
The board also approved two administrative transfers. Scott Szczerbiak, principal at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School, will transfer to the principal position at Lexington Park Elementary School. Dr. Rebecca Schou, previously principal at Lexington Park Elementary School, will move to the role of pupil personnel worker in the Department of Student Services, based at Great Mills High School.
These changes reflect the district’s commitment to placing experienced educators in leadership roles to support student achievement and operational efficiency. The appointees bring a range of academic credentials and professional experience, with many holding advanced degrees from institutions such as McDaniel College, Towson University, and the University of Maryland. The transfers of Szczerbiak and Schou ensure continuity of leadership within the district’s elementary and student services sectors.
All appointments and transfers take effect on July 1, 2025, aligning with the start of the new fiscal year. The St. Mary’s County Public Schools system serves over 17,000 students across 27 schools, and these administrative changes aim to strengthen instructional and operational leadership to meet the needs of students and staff.
