ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 25, 2025 — Brayden Morgan, a rising senior at Glen Burnie High School, will be sworn in as the 52nd Student Member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education (SMOB) on July 1, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the Board Room of the Carol S. Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. Morgan, elected by the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC), will succeed Hafsa Hamdaoui of Crofton High School, whose term ends June 30, 2025.

Morgan, the fourth SMOB from Glen Burnie High School, aims to amplify underrepresented voices, enhance special education representation, and promote Career Technical Education and student service opportunities during his one-year term. “I am beyond excited for this opportunity to work with my fellow Board members and represent AACPS students,” Morgan said.

A member of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Student Service Leadership Team, Morgan advocates for public service and represents Glen Burnie’s Public Service Signature Program. He will serve as president of the school’s Interact Club in the 2025-26 school year. As a three-year varsity soccer player, he contributes to the Athletic Leadership Council, promoting leadership in athletics both at school and in the community.

In his junior year, Morgan joined Glen Burnie’s AVID program to foster student leadership, mentoring a freshman in academics and athletics. He also co-founded the school’s Polar Bear Plunge Committee, leading efforts that raised over $30,000 for Special Olympics in the 2024-25 school year.

The SMOB role, established in 1974 with Jeffrey Robinson of Andover High School in an advisory capacity, has granted full voting rights since 1975, making Anne Arundel’s student member the only one in the nation with equal voting power to adult board members. Morgan’s election by CRASC, announced on May 1, 2025, followed a competitive process where he outpolled finalists Michelle Fadele of Chesapeake High School and Jack Warrick of Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School. His appointment awaits formal confirmation by Gov. Wes Moore.

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education, overseeing over 80,000 students, includes seven elected adult members and the student member. Morgan’s priorities align with the board’s mission to ensure students belong, grow, and succeed. More information about the SMOB role is available at AACPS SMOB webpage.

Morgan’s swearing-in ceremony is open to the public, subject to space limitations, and will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV and the school system’s YouTube channel. His term begins as the board navigates key issues, including the second phase of county-wide redistricting set for implementation in the 2026-27 school year.
