ST. MARY’S CITY, Md., June 24, 2025 — Six members of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Men’s At-Large Team on June 17, 2025, recognizing their exceptional performance in both athletics and academics. Matteo Ciccarello, Quinnten Hatfield, Jeremy Heath, Nate Hochrein, Adam Martin, and Cullen McKay earned the honor, with Hatfield advancing to the CSC Academic All-America® national ballot, set for announcement on July 9, 2025. This achievement highlights the Seahawks’ commitment to excellence at the NCAA Division III level.

The CSC Academic All-District® program honors student-athletes who maintain a minimum 3.50 GPA and meet rigorous athletic standards, as nominated by communications directors. The six St. Mary’s players, representing a range of academic disciplines, excelled in the United East Conference while pursuing demanding coursework at a liberal arts institution known for its academic rigor.

Matteo Ciccarello, a junior from Crofton, Maryland, double majoring in computer science and mathematics, holds a 3.941 GPA. The 6-foot-1 face-off specialist led the United East Conference with 236 face-off wins and 129 ground balls, earning his second consecutive First Team All-United East award. His 7.59 ground balls per game ranked 42nd in Division III, cementing his role as a key contributor to the Seahawks’ success.

Quinnten Hatfield, a 2025 graduate from Bel Air, Maryland, achieved a 3.982 GPA in physics and computer science, graduating summa cum laude with a mathematics minor. Named the 2025 United East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the 6-foot-4 short-stick defensive midfielder secured his third Academic All-District® honor and is a finalist for the CSC Academic All-America® award. A three-time Honorable Mention USILA All-American (2023, 2024, 2025), Hatfield earned First Team All-United East honors in 2023 and 2025 and Second Team in 2024, showcasing his defensive tenacity.

Jeremy Heath, a biology major from Chester, Maryland, graduated magna cum laude with a 3.837 GPA, earning his third Academic All-District® recognition. The 5-foot-10 defenseman secured his second straight First Team All-United East award, tying for fourth in the conference with 19 caused turnovers and collecting 38 ground balls. His two United East Defensive Player of the Week awards, along with a goal and an assist, underscored his defensive impact.

Nate Hochrein, a business administration and economics major from Baltimore, Maryland, graduated cum laude with a 3.504 GPA. The 6-foot-3 midfielder earned First Team All-United East honors after a Second Team nod in 2024, ranking fifth in the conference with 25 assists and eighth with 46 points. His 21 goals and 15 ground balls bolstered the Seahawks’ offensive output.

Adam Martin, a sophomore from Kent Island, Maryland, double majoring in economics and business administration, holds a 3.956 GPA. In his first season as a starter, the 5-foot-11 long-stick midfielder earned First Team All-United East honors, tying for eighth in the conference with 16 caused turnovers and scooping up 20 ground balls. This marks his second Academic All-District® award.

Cullen McKay, a psychology major with a history minor from Ijamsville, Maryland, graduated cum laude with a 3.529 GPA. The 5-foot-10 goalie ranked second in the United East with a 10.27 goals-against average and third with a 0.509 save percentage, anchoring the Seahawks’ defense.

Hatfield’s advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® national ballot positions him for potential First, Second, or Third Team honors, to be announced on July 9, 2025. The CSC Academic All-America® program, separate from the All-District® awards, elevates the nation’s top student-athletes across NCAA divisions and the NAIA, recognizing their dual excellence.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a public liberal arts institution with about 1,600 students, is located in St. Mary’s City, a historic site along the St. Mary’s River.
