BALTIMORE — The New York Mets staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 7-6 in 10 innings on July 8, 2025, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, improving their record to 53-39 and maintaining their lead in the National League East. The Orioles, now 40-50 and fifth in the American League East, fell despite a strong offensive effort.
The game remained close until the sixth inning when Ronny Mauricio’s solo home run tied the score at 1-1. Baltimore surged ahead in the same inning, capitalizing on a two-run double by Ryan O’Hearn and a two-run single by Ramón Laureano, taking a 5-1 lead. Jackson Holliday’s solo home run in the seventh extended the Orioles’ advantage to 6-2. The Mets mounted a comeback in the eighth, sparked by Francisco Lindor’s two-run homer and Pete Alonso’s game-tying two-run shot, knotting the score at 6-6.

In the 10th, Juan Soto’s single drove in Lindor for the go-ahead run. Huascar Brazobán secured his second save, retiring the Orioles in the bottom half. Edwin Díaz earned the win, improving to 4-0, while Yennier Cano took the loss, dropping to 1-5.
“Juan Soto singled in the tiebreaking run in the 10th inning, and the New York Mets hit three home runs in a 7-6 comeback victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night,” reported ESPN. The Mets’ offense was powered by Alonso, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Soto, who had three hits, including the decisive single. Lindor contributed two RBIs, and Mauricio added a home run. For the Orioles, Holliday led with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, while O’Hearn and Laureano each drove in two runs.
Mets starter Clay Holmes allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out five. Orioles rookie Brandon Young pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs and striking out six, including an immaculate inning in the fifth—the first by an Oriole since Kevin Guzman in 2018. The game, attended by 35,200, lasted 3 hours and 9 minutes, with a 46-minute delay, under overcast skies with 81-degree temperatures.
The Mets’ bullpen, featuring Brett Lovelady, Alex Carrillo, Reed Garrett, Díaz, and Brazobán, held the Orioles to one run after the sixth. Baltimore’s relievers, including Gregory Soto, Seranthony Domínguez, Bryan Baker, Andrew Kittredge, Félix Bautista, and Cano, struggled, particularly in the eighth, when Baker surrendered four runs.
The victory marked the Mets’ fifth win when trailing after seven innings this season, improving their record to 5-34 in such games. Their 25-8 record when hitting at least two home runs underscores their power-driven offense. Baltimore’s team batting average ranks 10th in the AL at .239, with Ryan O’Hearn leading at .287.
Both teams faced challenges with injuries. The Mets have multiple players on the injured list, including Jesse Winker (oblique) and Mark Vientos (hamstring), while the Orioles are without Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) and Jorge Mateo (elbow), among others. The Mets’ resilience in extra innings keeps them in contention with the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East lead.
The series continues on July 9 with Mets left-hander David Peterson (6-4, 3.18 ERA) facing Orioles lefty Tomoyuki Sugano (6-5, 4.44 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Camden Yards.
