An 18-year-old Washington, D.C. man is facing multiple charges after leading Charles County Sheriff’s Office patrol officers on a pursuit in a stolen Dodge Challenger early Aug. 21, during which two loaded handguns were thrown from the vehicle, according to police.
Officers responded to the 15500 block of Woodward Place in Waldorf around 1:48 a.m. for a report of someone possibly breaking into vehicles while a second person acted as a lookout near the Challenger. Arriving officers heard a car alarm and saw a person looking into a vehicle with a flashlight. When confronted, the person ran to the passenger side of the running Challenger, which then fled the scene.
Other responding officers deployed stop sticks at Woodward Place and Western Parkway, deflating one of the vehicle’s tires. During the roughly three-mile pursuit that followed, officers reported seeing objects thrown from the car before it turned onto Pierce Road and reached a dead end, where the occupants got out and ran.
The suspected driver, identified as Brandon Marquise Jackson, was apprehended after a brief foot chase. While in custody, Jackson reportedly told an officer he “was the driver of the vehicle,” according to police. Officers recovered the items thrown from the car — two loaded handguns and an extended magazine.
The Challenger, valued at approximately $21,000, had been reported stolen in Prince George’s County. Inside, officers located burglary and auto theft tools. Investigators also found a separate Dodge Charger on Woodward Place that had been damaged during an apparent attempt to steal it.
Jackson was charged with auto theft, attempted auto theft, possession of a handgun by a prohibited person, additional weapons charges, a property-damage charge, and six traffic citations. He was held without bond pending a court appearance.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional arrests had been announced as of this writing.
