Altoona, Pa. — The Altoona Curve handed the Bowie Baysox a 6-1 defeat on July 27, 2025, at Peoples Natural Gas Field, concluding a three-game series in the Eastern League’s Southwest Division. The Baysox vs Curve matchup, attended by 3,712 fans despite a 46-minute rain delay, saw Altoona’s pitching and timely hitting outmatch Bowie’s efforts, disappointing Southern Maryland fans who follow the Baysox as a local minor league team based in Prince George’s County.
The Baysox, affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles, dropped to 42-52, remaining fifth in their division, while the Curve, a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate, improved to 46-49, holding third place. For Charles County residents, many of whom make the trip to Bowie’s Prince George’s Stadium, the Baysox vs Curve game highlighted the challenges of a tough season.

Early Offense Sets Curve Ahead
The Baysox vs Curve game saw Altoona strike first in the second inning. Jase Bowen’s three-run homer off Baysox starter Alex Wells, with Sammy Siani and Brenden Dixon on base, gave the Curve a 3-0 lead. Bowen’s fifth homer of the season, a fly ball to left-center, set the tone for Altoona’s dominance. The Curve’s offense continued in the fifth, capitalizing on Bowie errors. Nick Cimillo scored on Siani’s bunt single, aided by a throwing error from pitcher Trace Bright. A sacrifice fly by Dixon and a single from Aaron McKeithan pushed the lead to 6-0.
Bowie’s lone run came in the eighth when Reed Trimble’s double drove in Jalen Vasquez, narrowing the gap to 6-1. Trimble’s hit, one of seven for the Baysox, was a highlight for Southern Maryland fans, but the team’s 2-for-8 performance with runners in scoring position limited their comeback hopes.
Pitching Struggles for Baysox
Alex Wells, the Baysox starter, took the loss, falling to 0-5 with a 2.70 ERA. In 2.1 innings, he allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits, with a pitch timer violation adding to his challenges. Relievers Yan Rivera, Trace Bright, Brandon Herberholz, and Jean Ogando pitched the remaining innings, with Bright allowing two earned runs due to defensive miscues. The Baysox vs Curve game exposed defensive woes, with five errors, including two by Bright and one each by catcher Chad Urman, Vasquez, and Tavian Josenberger.
Altoona’s pitching, led by Hunter Townsend (3-2, 0.99 ERA), stifled Bowie’s offense. Townsend’s two scoreless innings earned him the win, while relievers Po-Yu Chen, Anthony Woods, Ryan Harbin, and Wilkin Ramos limited the Baysox to one run. Harbin allowed Trimble’s RBI double but struck out four in two innings. The Curve’s efficient pitching, with 9 strikeouts and three double plays, kept Bowie’s runners stranded.
