BOWIE, Md. — The Erie SeaWolves defeated the Chesapeake Baysox 10-6 in an Eastern League contest at Prince George’s Stadium on August 12, 2025, riding three home runs and a strong start to open the series. Kevin McGonigle homered twice and drove in four runs for Erie, while Enrique Bradfield Jr. marked his return from injury with a three-run homer for the Chesapeake Baysox in a game that saw early lead changes before the visitors pulled away.
Erie improved to 64-44 overall and 19-20 in the second half, holding first place in the Southwest Division. The Chesapeake Baysox fell to 44-63 overall and 13-27 in the second half, remaining fifth in the division. A crowd of 1,485 attended under partly cloudy conditions with 85-degree temperatures and a light wind out to left field.

The Chesapeake Baysox game opened with Erie taking command against starter Albert Suárez, on a rehab assignment from the Baltimore Orioles. Max Clark singled, and McGonigle followed with a two-run homer to right-center for a 2-0 lead. Bowie answered in the bottom half: Creed Willems doubled and scored on Brandon Butterworth’s single, making it 2-1.
Erie extended the margin in the second. Roberto Campos doubled, Carlos Mendoza added an RBI double for 3-1, and after bases loaded, McGonigle’s sacrifice fly scored Mendoza to push it to 4-1. The Chesapeake Baysox surged ahead in their half: Adam Retzbach doubled, Max Wagner drove him in with a double, Anthony Servideo walked, and Bradfield launched a three-run homer to left-center for a 5-4 lead.
The SeaWolves responded in the third: Jake Holton singled, John Peck reached on an error, Campos doubled in Holton, Mendoza’s sacrifice fly plated Peck, and Seth Stephenson singled home Campos for 7-5. In the fourth, McGonigle led off with his second homer, and after Josue Briceño walked, Justice Bigbie hit a two-run homer to center, setting the final 10-6 tally.
Bowie scored its last run in the third when Butterworth reached on McGonigle’s error, Carter Young singled, and Retzbach grounded out to bring Butterworth home.
Travis Kuhn picked up the win for Erie, improving to 7-4 with two scoreless relief innings. Starter Liam Alba allowed six runs over three innings. Blaine Boyer held for three innings, and Mario Magno closed the ninth. Blake Money suffered the loss for the Chesapeake Baysox, dropping to 3-3 after six innings of six runs allowed with nine strikeouts, a Double-A high for him. Suárez gave up four runs in two innings.
McGonigle went 2-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs. Bigbie homered and drove in two. Campos doubled twice with an RBI. For the Chesapeake Baysox, Bradfield went 1-for-5 with three RBIs. Willems, Wagner, and Retzbach each doubled, with Wagner and Retzbach adding RBIs.
The teams combined for 20 hits, Erie with 11 and Bowie nine. Erie succeeded 4-for-6 with runners in scoring position, stranding four, while the Chesapeake Baysox went 3-for-9 and left six on base. Each side committed one error.
Bradfield, Baltimore’s fourth-ranked prospect, returned after missing time with an undisclosed injury, providing a boost amid the team’s second-half struggles. Erie, affiliated with the Detroit Tigers, leads the division narrowly over Akron.
The series resumes August 13 with Bowie’s Zach Fruit (0-4, 9.13 ERA) against Erie’s Garrett Burhenn (11-2, 3.94 ERA), first pitch at 6:35 p.m.
This Chesapeake Baysox game underscored offensive potential but highlighted pitching needs for Bowie, which has faced roster flux. Erie leveraged timely hitting to maintain momentum in the playoff race.
